So I've been...

So I've been living an hour away from all my friends.  One of the things that means is that I've been spending a lot of time in my car.  I'm sick of all the radio music and talk radio is good like 65% of the time.  Also I hate radio commercials more than, I think, anything.  All this means is that I've been listening to my found iPod recently.  This iPod is 11 years old, doesnt hold a charge, the screen lock button doesn't work, and it has been reset multiple times.  BUT it has over 10 days worth of music on it, starting from 9th grade, and it's gotten me from point A to point B for 11 years now.  So in the spirit of ol' poddy being 11 years old I'm going to shuffle the songs on it and describe to you the first 11 that pop up (no matter how embarrassing they are).

Numero uno) Clarity feat. foxes by Zedd.  So this tripping house song is kind of boring because I just downloaded this last year during my whole 'I work at a gym and all we listen to is house music stage'.  This song reminds me of getting up early and training high schoolers at 7 in the morning.  Date added: 5/6/13, Last played: 6/19/13 <- that was short lived.

2) Resign by The Click Five.  Wow.  I don't think I've ever listened to this song.  I probably downloaded it when that one The Click Five song was popular in like 2011.  What was that one again? Actually who cares? NEXT. Date added: 3/28/06, Last played: Never

3) Sample In a Jar by Phish.  I've definitely never listened to this one but it probably made it's way into my library when I was ambitious and decided I would be a Phish fan so one of my friends gave me all of his stuff.  I never listened to any of it.  That's not to say I don't like the band.  I just couldn't tell you one song from another. 4) The Friend Nobody Likes by Dane Cook. Ok I was hoping this wouldn't happen but I have an embarrassing amount of Dane Cook in my library from when he was popular.  I was in like 10th or 11th grade and listened to a lot of it too.  Multiple times. Date added: 9/26/05, Last played: 6/12/12 <- yeesh!

5)  Queen of Hearts by Jason Derulo.  Based on the fact that the album this is filed under is called 'stolen from Katie' I'm going to guess this was on one of the CDs my junior year college roommate gave to me.  Ok, ok I took it out of her car when she wasn't home and put them on my itunes, but hey, she had a lot of music that I liked.  The good news is Jason Derulo doesn't say his own name in this one.. I dont think.  Date added: 4/15/10, Last played: 4/15/10

6) Deal by Further.  This comes off one of their live albums and might by in my top 20 when you organized songs by number of plays.  It was put on my ipod when I had to drive to New Jersey for job training and needed good music to keep me occupied.  It was my gateway song into liking the Grateful Dead. Date added: 6/13/12, Last played: 7/23/15

7) Christmas Song by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds.  I'm surprised it took this long to get a Dave song up here actually.  I have an absurd amount of Dave dating back to 2004.  Like way more than someone who likes Dave at the amount that I do should.  This song is alright, not a go to, but I won't immediately skip it.  Date added: 9/19/12, Last played: 9/27/13

8) Walk it Out by UNK.  I was wondering when the strange gangsta rap was going to appear.  I have some really weird music, I Like Grapes is another one that I would file under the 'I have no idea why this extremely auto-tuned gangsta rap is here, but I don't hate it' genre.  I think this was on one of our swim team CDs that we would play during practice.  Once we counted and they rap 'walk it out' over 120 times.  Date added: 8/30/12, Last played: 4/6/12

9) Wanna Be Startin' Something by Michael Jackson.  This was given to me during sophomore year of college when it was decided that I didn't like Michael Jackson enough.  This was to be a part of my education.  I give him a 6.7 out of 10 in general, some songs 10/10 ( I hear to Free Willy theme song).  Date added: 10/12/09, Last played 10/12/09 <- ouch

10) I Just Can't Wait to be King by "Lions".  Yes, I have disney music on my ipod.  No I don't have all of the disney music on my ipod.  This and a few other classics are all that I could find actually.  I do know all the lyrics to this one though.  Also note that the artist is "Lions", I must not have known who the artist was but I think that pretty much does it justice.  Date added: 2/13/11, Last played: 3/5/13

11) Idiot Friends by Spongebob Squarepants.  I can't tell if it is a good thing that 2 out of a random 11 songs come from animated TV, but it could be worse.. the time that I downloaded Kelly's whole album just to listen to Txt Msg Brkup could have shown up.  I actually added the Spongebob album when I was at a record store that was going out of business and the CD was like $1.  Not that that should be an excuse, I like Spongebob and I'm proud, the Campfire song is my favorite.  Date added: 3/28/12, Last played: 4/28/12

Things I learned from this experiment:
1) When you have over 3000 songs, don't listen to 2000 of them, and you chose a random 11, it's not necessarily a good indicator of your taste in music.  To give you an idea, my Top 5 when sorted by number of plays come from, Slightly Stoopid, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Grateful Dead, and Taylor Swift.  (I hope that makes me sound better)
2) My library is really diverse.  Where else on the planet do Beyonce and Janis Joplin, or Brand New and Bob Marley all get to hang out?
and 3) I need a new Ipod.
